The U.N.’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has stated that they are actively investigating reports of a potential information security breach allegedly linked to a threat actor known as Natohub.

According to the website CyberDaily, the threat actor Natohub also claimed to be behind the hack that affected the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the United States Department of Defense (US DOD) in 2024, compromising the data of almost 13,000 personnel.

The ICAO incident has affected around 42,000 records from their recruitment applications between April 2016 and July 2024. The data breach includes names, email addresses, dates of birth, and employment history, but thankfully, it doesn’t encompass any financial information, passwords, passport details, or uploaded documents.

ICAO has confirmed that this incident is limited to the recruitment database and does not affect any systems related to aviation safety or security operations. ICAO has stated that the breach is confined to the recruitment database and does not impact any aviation safety or security systems.

“We have implemented additional security measures to protect our systems,” a notice on ICAO’s website states. “We are also working to identify and notify affected individuals.”

ICAO emphasized that they take the privacy and security of personal information extremely seriously and will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
