On November 8, 2024, Ahold Delhaize USA, the parent company of Stop and Shop, detected a cybersecurity issue within its U.S. network. The company immediately launched an investigation with the help of external cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement. As a precautionary measure, some systems were taken offline to protect them from further damage.

The cybersecurity breach affected several Stop & Shop and Hannaford’s services, including pharmacy and e-commerce operations. Customers experienced empty shelves and delays in restocking due to the disruption also impacting ordering systems.

One Stop & Shop store had a sign that said, "Due to IT system outages that are affecting some of our behind-the-scenes applications, product deliveries may be slightly delayed. We are working to restock our shelves as quickly as possible."

A statement on Friday, November 22, by Stop & Shop Corporate Communications Manager Caroline Medeiros said, "Stop & Shop stores are stocked and largely recovered. We recognize the high trust our customers place in us to nourish their families and our communities, and we deeply appreciate their patience as we worked to restock our shelves. Our stores are stocked and ready to serve our shoppers in advance of their holiday celebrations."
