The United States DOJ announced last month that they have seized 13 domains associated with DDoS-for-hire services per court order.

A DDoS-for-hire is a service or platform that allows individuals to launch Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on target websites or online services in exchange for a fee. DDoS attacks overwhelm the target's servers or network infrastructure with a massive amount of traffic, rendering the targeted system inaccessible to legitimate users.

"The seizures this week are the third wave of U.S. law enforcement actions against prominent [DDoS services]," the Justice Department said in a statement. "Hundreds of thousands of registered users have used these services to launch millions of attacks against millions of victims. School districts, universities, financial institutions, and government websites are among the victims who have been targeted in attacks."

10 of the domains seized were newer domains run by the same threat actors as previously seized domains, according to the DOJ. Four adults, one from Texas and three from Florida, plead guilty at the end of last year to being part of DDoS-for-hire organizations.

If your business suffers a DDoS attack, it will have a significant negative impact on your business.

Small businesses heavily reliant on their online presence may suffer extended periods of downtime, leading to loss of revenue, damage to reputation, and customer dissatisfaction. f customers cannot access a small business's website or online store due to a DDoS attack, they are likely to take their business elsewhere.

Monitoring your network is one of the best ways to mitigate risk. Direct iT helps businesses monitor these threats with our BBox system, which includes real-time information and ongoing monitoring.
